AOL Inc. (previously America Online) is a U.S.-based online service provider and Internet service provider. It has been in business since 1985. They changed their name to AOL Inc. in 2009 after a spin-off from Time Warner. It was announced in May 2015 that Verizon Communications purchased AOL.

AOL Instant Messenger is a service which allows to communicate with any user currently online. AIM has millions of users worldwide. There are also other computer programs that can be used to talk with your AIM account, for example Trillian, Pidgin, Digsby, and AIM+.
